Alison is a composer and piano teacher from the UK. A graduate of the Royal College of Music, she then went on to further studies at Surrey University focusing on the philosophy of music, which then led to a wider exploration of the links between art, myth and music. These themes have recurred often in her work, most notably in Piano Paintings and Landscapes, from which this work is drawn. Landscapes was published by Editions Musica Ferrum, who have also published a couple of Alison’s collaborations with Barbara Arens, whose piece Ophelia featured in Upright Vol. IV.
There really is no other word for this piece than “gorgeous” - I can’t tell you how much I love the modal harmonies, the subtle way the melody moves and evolves, and above all the ingenious way Alison recapitulates/transforms the opening material at the end.
