Olivia is a pianist and composer from Italy. This is her second appearance on Upright – her first was the piece Happy Sand, which was included in Upright Vol. IV, and was taken from the album Where Night Never Comes, an album that deservedly won SoloPiano.com's annual award for Album Of The Year. She’s also released recordings of music by Eric Satie, Max Richter, Ludovico Einaudi and Philip Glass.What on first appearances appears to be the very simplest of melodies is transformed through arpeggiation and some subtle hemiolas into something truly beautiful – I particularly love the way Olivia brings back the opening melody in bars 17-24.
Besides The Spring is the opening track of her new album River Path, which will come out on 1631 Recordings on the 28th February 2020. What on first appearances appears to be the very simplest of melodies is transformed through arpeggiation and some subtle hemiolas into something truly beautiful – I particularly love the way Olivia brings back the opening melody in bars 17-24.
