I’m delighted to be able to share Sunlight Dancing Through Leaves from composer Alison Mathews on Upright. There really is no other word for it than “gorgeous” - I can’t tell you how much I love the modal harmonies, the subtle way the melody moves and evolves, and above all the ingenious way Alison recapitulates/transforms the opening material at the end. Alison is a composer and piano teacher from the UK and a graduate of the Royal College of Music and of Surrey University. Landscapes was published by Editions Musica Ferrum, who have also published a couple of Alison’s collaborations with Barbara Arens, whose piece Ophelia featured in Upright Vol. IV.
